love.fútbol and FMF Celebrate the Opening of a Community-Built Soccer Space in Unidad Legaria, Mexico City
Mexico City, Miguel Hidalgo
love.fútbol, in partnership with the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) and the residents of Unidad Legaria, proudly celebrated the opening of a renewed, community-driven soccer space in Mexico City’s Miguel Hidalgo borough on Thursday, April 4, 2025.
In a collaborative effort rooted in local ownership, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) and love.fútbol proudly unveiled a renewed community soccer space in Unidad Legaria, located in the Miguel Hidalgo borough of Mexico City. This project marks FMF’s first community-driven sports space, a milestone in their broader commitment to promote grassroots football and drive social impact through the game.
More than just a pitch, this new space represents a collective achievement by the residents of Unidad Legaria who—alongside love.fútbol and FMF—came together over several months to imagine, create, and activate a safe, vibrant, and sustainable environment for children, youth, and families to play, grow, and thrive.
Ivar Sisniega, FMF´executive president, shared:
“Safe spaces like this one help strengthen community bonds and promote social well-being. They also bring to life the values we see on the pitch—inclusion, equity, respect, responsibility, and teamwork. We hope this space is enjoyed and well cared for by everyone in the community.”
The inauguration event was also a moment of celebration and gratitude, with local leaders Lourdes Cervantes and Rubén Bautista speaking on behalf of Unidad Legaria. They expressed deep appreciation to FMF and love.fútbol for supporting the transformation of their space and reaffirmed the community’s commitment to ensuring its long-term care and sustainability.
Juan Ignacio Blanco, chairman of the board of love.fútbol, and Emilio Martínez, perations director in Mexico, commented:
“This space is a reflection of what’s possible when a community leads its own development. We’re proud to walk alongside the Federación and, above all, the people of Legaria—whose unity and determination have brought this dream to life.”
The renovated pitch is part of an integrated model that goes far beyond sports. It is a platform designed to nurture community leadership, drive youth participation, and create long-term opportunities for social and personal development.
With this intervention, Unidad Legaria now has a community-owned space where children and youth don’t just play soccer—they learn, lead, and grow into changemakers for their neighborhood.
