The German Giants FC Bayern Munich teamed up with love.fútbol during the team’s first-ever visit to Brazil, to deliver a coaching session to youngsters from São Remo (São Paulo, Brazil), on Saturday 14.
The session, which was delivered by former FC Bayern stars, Paulo Sérgio, Lúcio, and Klaus Augenthaler, featured 40 children aged between 14-15 years old from the area surrounding the Arena São Remo. This community pitch was originally built by locals two decades ago; in 2016, it was rebuilt and reopened as part of a love.fútbol project. Since then, it has become a space for educational and sports programs run by local organizations, as well as other cultural and grassroots activities managed by the neighbors.
“Every time FC Bayern visits a new city, we spend months researching the local culture and important topics affecting the city,” commented FC Bayern Munich’s President of the Americas, Rudolf Vidal. “Soccer is such a vital part of Brazilian culture and the work that love.fútbol is doing to ensure children have access to play the game no matter where they live is very impressive. It is an honor for us to deliver this session with our legends,” he added.
"love.fútbol stands for the right to play for every girl and boy. The São Remo pitch, which was created by and for the local community, is a platform to guarantee not only this fundamental right but also a space for education and for dreams to come true. love.fútbol and the São Remo community are very happy to welcome FC Bayern Munich's legends and to see them playing, teaching and ultimately learning from our youth," stated Breno Lacet, love.fútbol's Development Director.
FC Bayern Munich is known globally for its record-breaking soccer team which has won 29 national championships, 19 domestic cups as well as five UEFA Champions League titles. Big-name former players such as Sérgio, Lúcio and Augenthaler are in São Paulo to participate in the Legends Cup Brazil, kicked off on December 15.
