First-ever women's football tournament takes place at Arena Pernambuco
If you love soccer, the idea of playing in the same stadium, as the big name professionals, is the ultimate dream come true.
The dream came true for our girls from the #lovefutbol community of Penedo de Cima (São Lourenço da Mata – PE) last Friday, May 29th, 2015, who participated in the first-ever women’s soccer tournament (I Torneio Jogada do Futuro) at the Arena Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil.
The stadium that received the stars of the World Cup in 2014 now opened its doors to the first female matches on its grounds.
The approximately 40 girls made up three separate teams from São Lourenço da Mata ( PE) played three matches and were interviewed by local media outlets. The champions of the day were Projeto Sensação de Tiúma, but everyone won by taking part in this historic day.
As the Women's World Cup is set to start this weekend in Canada, we urge you to think about the girls in the world who are passionate about the beautiful game and deserve as much a place to play and express themselves as the boys.
