Project in Egypt
love.fútbol inaugurates first project in Africa
After working in Brazil, Guatemala, Argentina and Mexico, we crossed the Atlantic Ocean and inaugurated our first project on the African continent this past May. The recreational field was built in the community of Talat in Fayoum, Egypt, and will benefit approximately 1,200 children and youth in the area.
The field, which even under poor conditions was used daily by groups of children and youth, now has a newly fitted turf surface, nets, wiring, and lighting. "To play on a field of good condition, we needed to travel far away, and we did not have the resources to rent a private one. Having a good field to play on in our community was a dream," said Mahmoud Salah, a resident of Talat. The dream became a reality thanks to the collective mobilization of the community who dedicated their time to construct the field.
love.fútbol served as a consultant on the project* using its methodology of community engagement to develop the space for the practice of sports. "The idea of love.fútbol was born in Morocco, Africa, when Drew Chafetz, the co-founder of the organization, saw children playing fútbol in a dangerous area. It was a dream of ours to be able to deliver a project on the African continent", said love.fútbol's COO Manoel Silva.
*The Fayoum project was led by Coca-Cola.
